To begin using your HostLaunch account, you'll need to set up all required API keys, including your DigitalOcean API key. Your DigitalOcean API key is used by HostLaunch to create and destroy DigitalOcean droplets in your DigitalOcean account. This article will show you how to get your DigitalOcean API key.
First, you'll need to create a DigitalOcean account specifically for use with HostLaunch. If you already have a HostLaunch-specific DigitalOcean account, you can skip this step.
Go to DigitalOcean in your web browser, click on Sign Up, and fill in your email address and desired password.
Once you've created your account, verify your email address when prompted by DigitalOcean.
Finally, add your credit card by clicking on Account at the top-right, then clicking on Billing, then scroll down to "Payment Methods" and click Add Card.
Once logged into DigitalOcean, click on API in the left navigation bar.
To generate your API key (also known as a "token"), click Generate New Token.
Enter a name for your token, make sure "Write (optional)" is selected, then click the Generate Token button.
Your API key will be displayed on the next page.
Now enter the API key into HostLaunch. You can also take this opportunity to set your primary and fallback DigitalOcean regions.
Your HostLaunch account can now manage your DigitalOcean droplets.
If you haven't completed the setup of your other required API keys in HostLaunch, we recommend completing those steps now:
